To book a tanoura show in Dubai, choose the moment in your event, pick traditional or LED, check the floor space, confirm the permit with your venue, then get a written quote with the show length and the music. For a folklore troupe, add the troupe size. The steps below follow that order.
1. Choose the moment
A tanoura show is a spectacle, not background entertainment, so give it a slot where guests are seated and watching: between courses at dinner, after a welcome speech, or as the opening of a gala. Ayala and dabke troupes suit arrivals and entrances. Write down the running order first.
2. Pick the show
| You want | Book |
|---|---|
| A show in daylight or on grass | Traditional tanoura |
| A show in a dark room or after sunset | LED tanoura |
| A longer slot | Extended set with a costume change |
| Live rhythm on stage | Tanoura with a drummer or folk trio |
| A heritage welcome | Ayala or yola troupe |
| Guests dancing | Dabke troupe |
See the tanoura show and dabke pages. For an iftar or a Ramadan tent, see tanoura shows for Ramadan.
3. Check the floor
The tanoura dancer needs a clear circle about 2.5 to 3 metres across, with a non-slip floor, away from step edges, cables and furniture the skirt could catch. LED sets look best on a flat, hard floor. A dabke line needs a full dance floor, so send its size, the ceiling height and the surface. An ayala troupe of 14 to 16 needs a wide stage or open area.
4. Check the light and sound
For LED, plan to dim the room for the segment. For recorded music, the venue's sound system is usually enough; a live drummer may need a microphone. Outdoors, plan power near the performance area.
5. Confirm the permit
A performance at a hotel, restaurant or other licensed venue in Dubai needs a valid DET entertainment permit, arranged by the venue or the agency. In Abu Dhabi the equivalent is DCT. Private villas and desert camps under an operator's licence usually need no separate permit for the act. Hotels also ask for an internal approval that lists any props, such as the canes or ceremonial rifles used in ayala. Processing can take several working days, so do it before the deposit.
6. Book early enough
For a normal date, 3 to 10 days can be enough. National Day week, Ramadan and the October to April wedding season fill faster: book 3 to 4 weeks ahead, and earlier for large troupes. During Ramadan, shows run after iftar and sets are shorter.
7. Get it in writing
Before you pay a deposit, get the show length, the type of skirt, live or recorded music, the number of performers, travel, sound and who arranges the permit. If you booked an LED show, ask for the skirt to be charged and tested before the show.
8. On the day
Give the dancer a place to change near the performance area and a clear path to it. Keep the circle free of guests, phones on stands and decor until the show ends.
