Tanoura show for a wedding in Dubai

A tanoura spin between courses, a dabke line for your entrance, an ayala troupe for the groom's arrival. Pick the moments, and we plan the acts around them.

A tanoura show at a wedding is usually a 15 to 20 minute surprise during the reception or dinner, when guests are seated and the dance floor is clear. Many couples pair it with a folklore entrance: a dabke troupe for the zaffa, or an ayala troupe for the groom's arrival. Send your date and venue and we send the dancers who are free, with videos and a price.

Price: a standard tanoura show usually costs AED 1,500 to AED 2,200, an LED tanoura show AED 2,000 to AED 3,000, and a dabke zaffa entrance AED 2,500 to AED 4,500. See tanoura show prices.

Where each act fits in the wedding night

Moment What usually works
Arrival of the couple A zaffa with dabke dancers and drummers walking you in, 5 to 8 minutes
Groom's majlis or male guests arriving An ayala or harbiya troupe with canes and drums
Dinner A tanoura show between courses, traditional or LED
Later in the evening A dabke set where the troupe pulls guests into the line
Party Your band or DJ for the rest of the night

A common plan for weddings in Dubai is a zaffa or ayala arrival, a tanoura or belly dance set during dinner, then a band or DJ.

Traditional or LED at a wedding

A traditional skirt in bright layers looks warm under ballroom chandeliers. An LED skirt works best if the room can dim the lights for a few minutes. For a longer slot, the dancer can open in the traditional skirt, change costume and close in LED. See the tanoura show page for each version.

Dabke and the zaffa

At Levantine weddings the zaffa walks the couple in with drummers and dancers. A dabke troupe fits this naturally, because the dance is built for a moving line. Many couples extend the booking into an open floor set later. See dabke dancers.

Emirati weddings

For the groom's majlis and the arrival of male guests, families book an ayala or harbiya troupe. Two rows of performers in white kandura hold thin canes and move in time with the drums while the chant runs between the rows.

Plan the floor and the timing

The tanoura dancer needs a clear circle about 2.5 to 3 metres across on a non-slip floor. A dabke line needs real floor space, not only a stage, so send the size of the dance floor before you pay a deposit. Hotels usually cover the act under their own entertainment permit but will ask for the performer details and the running order. The planning guide covers each step.

Questions people ask

When does the tanoura dancer perform at a wedding?

Most couples place the show during the reception or dinner, as a surprise segment between courses. It works best when guests are seated and the floor is clear.

Can dabke dancers walk us in?

Yes. A dabke troupe fits the zaffa entrance, usually 5 to 8 minutes, and many couples keep the troupe for an open floor set later so guests can join the line.

What suits an Emirati wedding?

Ayala or harbiya troupes are booked for the groom's majlis and the arrival of male guests.

How far ahead should we book?

As soon as you have the date and venue. The October to April wedding season, Ramadan and National Day week fill first, so allow 3 to 4 weeks or more for those dates.

Does the hotel need a permit for the dancer?

Hotels and licensed venues usually cover the act under their own entertainment permit. The venue will ask for the performer details and the running order in advance.
